MSU Community Music School is hosting an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. Jan. 18 for people to enroll or learn more about the classes and lessons offered to students of all ages, birth through adulthood.
Throughout the open house there will be walk-in music therapy sessions and an instrument “petting zoo” that will give those in attendance the opportunity to try a variety of instruments.
Visitors also will be able to tour the percussion studio and keyboard laboratory. Additionally, the open house includes early childhood music demonstrations at 3:15 p.m. and 4 p.m., and a Suzuki piano demonstration at 3:30 p.m. The Suzuki strings group will perform at 4 p.m., and Suzuki method orientation and information sessions will be offered at 3:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
“The Community Music School has something for everyone and the open house is a great time to check out CMS programming,” said Jaime DeMott, director of CMS. “We offer programs for adults, teens and children with all levels of musical experience and with all levels of ability, including people with special needs.”
Students may enroll for classes or lessons during the open house. CMS offerings include private and group lessons, adult and children’s choirs, early childhood music, music therapy, folk music, beginning band for adults, rock music, string ensemble and Suzuki strings, piano, and flute.
The MSU Community Music School is located at 4930 S. Hagadorn Road in East Lansing and is the outreach division of the MSU College of Music. With the mission to provide comprehensive music education, CMS strives to offer a variety of classes and quality instruction to interested individuals of all ages and levels with financial assistance for those in need.
