At its April 17 meeting, the Michigan State University Board of Trustees adopted new room-and-board rates for the 2015-16 academic year.
Under the new rates, students living in on-campus residence halls will see their rates increased by 3.5 percent.
In addition, rent in university apartments will increase next year, 1 percent in Spartan Village and 2 percent in University Village.

Following are other actions taken by the board.
- The board approved the creation of the Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering.
- The appointment of Marilyn Tarrant as director of the Office of Internal Audit was approved by the board. She succeeds Thomas Luccock, who is retiring.
- The board authorized the administration to proceed with the construction of the Saginaw Valley Research and Extension Center – Agricultural Education Center in Frankenmuth.
- In addition, 36 students received the Board of Trustees’ Award for having the highest grade point average at the close of their last semester at MSU. All 36 students earned a 4.0 GPA. See story here.
