'Happy Birthday Mozart' celebration

The MSU College of Music once again marks the birth of one of the world’s most beloved composers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The Joanne and Bill Church West Circle Series presents “Happy Birthday Mozart” at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at Fairchild Theatre in MSU’s Auditorium.

The annual celebration features seven string, piano and woodwind artists: Dmitri Berlinsky, violin; Yuri Gandelsman, viola; guest artist David LeDoux, cello; Deborah Moriarty, piano; Ralph Votapek, piano; guest artist Hai Xin Wu, violin; and Guy Yehuda, clarinet.

Musicologist Marcie Ray will be the concert guide, offering a closer look at Mozart and the history that surrounds him and his music.

“Happy Birthday Mozart” has a dynamic concert program, including:

  • Kegelstatt Trio K 498, Trio for Clarinet, Viola and Piano with Guy Yehuda, clarinet; Yuri Gandelsman, viola; and Deborah Moriarty, piano.
  • Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor K 478 with Dmitri Berlinsky, violin; Yuri Gandelsman, viola; David LeDoux, cello; and Ralph Votapek, piano.
  • Clarinet Quintet in A major K 581, Guy Yehuda, clarinet; Dmitri Berlinsky, violin; Hai Xin Wu, violin; Yuri Gandelsman, viola; and David LeDoux, cello.

The West Circle Series offers reserved seating only. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors (age 60 and older) and $5 for students and anyone under 18. Tickets may be purchased online at http://www.music.msu.edu or at the door.
