Classes suspended, operations modified until noon Feb. 2

Michigan State University is modifying operations and suspending classes until noon Feb. 2 for students at its East Lansing campus due to severe winter weather.

MSU is switching to emergency procedures per the university's emergency operations plan.

Critical university functions will be maintained at all times, and employees who support those functions, as determined by their supervisors or unit administrators, must report to work.

All electronic services will be maintained, and other business operations will be supported remotely to the fullest extent possible. Campus events scheduled before noon and in-person services will be suspended. University buildings will be closed to the public.

For students:

  • All classes scheduled before noon Feb. 2 are suspended. Instructors will be responsible for making suitable arrangements regarding missed class meetings and handling other academic responsibilities. For students living in campus housing, all dining halls will be open and serving food at regular hours. Olin Health Center will remain open.
  • Students at MSU’s medical campuses in Grand Rapids, Clinton Township and Detroit should consult their colleges regarding schedule changes. Students in clerkships should check at their clinical sites to determine their hospital or clinic responsibilities.

For faculty/staff:

  • Employees supporting critical functions should report to work. All other employees should make reasonable efforts to report for their normal shifts, unless notified otherwise by their supervisor.
  • Several clinics at the MSU Clinical Center will remain open; please call your clinic before coming to campus.

For those on campus:

  • Parking in ramps is encouraged to facilitate snow removal; parking in lots will be limited.
  • The Veterinary Teaching Hospital will continue emergency services.

Students, faculty and staff should continue to check www.msu.edu for updates.
