50th anniversary of the NEH and NEA

Michigan State University and the College of Arts and Letters will host a community-wide gala on Oct. 23 at Wharton Center’s Cobb Great Hall in recognition of the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts celebrating 50 years.

Founded in 1965, NEH is one of the largest funders of humanities programs in the United States. NEA is an independent federal agency whose funding and support gives Americans the opportunity to participate in the arts, exercise their imaginations and develop their creative capacities.

Throughout the past several years, both programs have contributed to arts, humanities and research at Michigan State University.

The anniversary event will include presentations from national and local speakers and highlight individual stories about artists across Michigan and how the funding support from either the NEA or the NEH helped to make a difference in their lives and communities.

Tickets for the event are free and can be found online.

Also, the MSU Museum will be hosting a companion exhibition featuring the seven Michigan recipients of the National Endowment for the Arts’ National Heritage Fellowship awards.
