Running for better medical access

With an estimated 30,000 greater Lansing area residents lacking adequate medical insurance, Michigan State University medical students are tackling the issue feet first.

On Sunday, April 6, students from the College of Human Medicine chapter of the American Medical Association will host the 7th Annual 5K R.A.C.E. (Race for Access to Care for Everyone), a run/walk to help the medically uninsured in the area. The event looks to not only raise funds, but also raise awareness of the medical needs within the local community.

The event starts at 8 a.m. at Conrad Hall on MSU’s campus.

All proceeds will benefit Lansing’s Care Free Medical and Dental clinic. The clinic provides affordable medical, dental, optometry, gynecology, pediatric, behavioral health and substance abuse services for people without health insurance or the ability to pay for medical care.
