MSU veterinarian selected by peers for national distinguished educator award

MSU professor Vanessa Cook received the 2014 Educator of the Year Award at the International Veterinary Emergency Critical Care meeting on Sept. 11 in Indianapolis.

The award, sponsored by Zoetis, honors outstanding contributions to teaching and continuing education in equine emergency and critical care medicine. The recipient of the award is selected by the large animal diplomats in the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Medicine.

Cook trains students in the professional veterinary medicine program, mentors interns and residents, and provides advanced training to veterinarians locally and nationally. The health and well-being of animals includes advancing medical knowledge and training future and existing veterinarians to meet the evolving challenges in veterinary medicine.

Associate professor at the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Cook earned her VetMB from Cambridge University. She received an MS from The Ohio State University and a PhD from North Carolina State University. She is a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (UK) and a diplomat of both the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care.
