MSU student groups team up for 5K charity run

The MSU Students Advancing International Development and Spartans for the Nyaka AIDS Orphans Project will present Breaking Barriers, a 5k run or walk to fight global poverty. The event starts at 11 a.m. April 12 near The Rock on Farm Lane.

Runners and walkers will begin by the Rock and continue west on a predetermined course. Half of all proceeds will support a women’s vocational workshop initiative and the other half will provide free education and meals for AIDS orphans in and around Nyakagyezi, Uganda. Participants can hear the stories of women and children they will sponsor by running or walking.

Preregistration fees are $20 for adults and $10 for students. Registration on the day of the event is $25 for adults and $15 for children. Children under three can run or walk for free. Registration can be completed here.

The event is sponsored by the MSU Residence Halls Association, the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Alumni Association, Eat at State, the Michigan Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports Endorsement Program and the Pure Michigan FITness Series.
