A national search began as MSU seeks qualifications from architectural firms and construction managers to renovate the Jack Breslin Student Event Center.
At the heart of the project is the fan experience. Enhanced restrooms, concession stands and signage are among the upgrades identified. Other aspects of the project include safety and security measures, heating and ventilation enhancements and sustainability improvements.
Earlier this summer, the Board of Trustees authorized the administration to move forward with planning for renovations to the facility. The need for repairs is crucial to support the MSU men’s and women’s basketball programs, along with a multitude of entertainment and community events held in the facility yearly.
“The Breslin Center is an integral part of the fabric of MSU,” Vice President for Auxiliary Enterprises Vennie Gore said. “We are entrusted with a great resource, and it is our responsibility to ensure that it meets the demands of today’s and tomorrow’s programming.”
The project will serve as an opportunity for the university to create a comprehensive plan for the facility.
“The fan experience has changed significantly since the building opened in 1989,” Athletic Director Mark Hollis said. “We are excited to plan for the future of the Breslin as we make some much-needed improvements.”
The cost of the project is projected to be $28 million. An architectural firm and construction manager are expected to be chosen in fall. MSU Board of Trustee approval will be sought on the plan in Fall 2015, with construction to follow with an anticipated completion date in Fall 2018. The project will seek to minimize the impact on basketball seasons.
