Gov. Rick Snyder announced two appointments and six reappointments to the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports.
Among the members who were reappointed is MSU professor Jim Pivarnik. Pivarnik is a professor of kinesiology and epidemiology and studies the role of physical activity and fitness on health and risk factors for chronic disease.
Pivarnik was originally appointed to the council in December 2011 when Snyder said Pivarnik’s expertise with health and wellness would play a vital role in promoting healthier lifestyles for citizens.
The 15-member council was established in 1992 and works to improve lives and strengthen communities by supporting healthy eating and physical activity.
"Good general health and fitness is an integral part of our reinvention of Michigan," said Snyder. "I look forward to the work of these individuals to help improve quality of life of our citizens."
Members serve two-year terms expiring April 30, 2016. Their appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
