1. A single evolutionary road may lead to Rome: A well-known biologist once theorized that many roads led to Rome when it comes to two distantly related organisms evolving a similar trait. A new paper, published in Nature Communications, suggests that when it comes to evolving some traits – especially simple ones – there may be a shared gene, one road, that’s the source. More >>

2. College of Music celebrates with 'A Fairchild Fanfare': To mark the first full concert year of the renovated Fairchild Theatre, the MSU College of Music will be hosting "A Fairchild Fanfare." As part of the MSU Federal Credit Union Showcase Series, this fast-paced musical montage features ensembles and soloists who make Fairchild Theatre their “musical home”— choirs, jazz groups, faculty artists, chamber music groups, new music ensembles, and opera. More >>

3. Free family activities at Teddy Bear Picnic: Children of all ages are invited to the annual Teddy Bear Picnic taking place 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Sept. 13 at Michigan 4H Children’s Garden at Michigan State University. Children are encouraged to bring a favorite teddy bear or stuffed animal for a check-up at the Teddy Bear Hospital, a mock clinic staffed by physicians and students from MSU’s health colleges. The annual event was created to help children overcome the fear of going to the doctor in a fun and safe environment. More >>
