1. Where are the teachers going? Contrary to popular opinion, unruly students are not driving out teachers in droves from America’s urban school districts. Instead, teachers are quitting due to frustration with standardized testing, declining pay and benefits and lack of voice in what they teach. More >>

2. Exercise before school may reduce ADHD symptoms in kids: Paying attention all day in school as a kid isn’t easy, especially for those who are at a higher risk of ADHD, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. A new study from Michigan State University and University of Vermont researchers shows that offering daily before-school, aerobic activities to younger at-risk children could help in reducing the symptoms of ADHD in the classroom and at home. More >>

4. Eureka! Yes! I figured it out! I often have moments where I get excited because something is finally clear to me or I’ve solved a problem. Granted, I haven’t figured out the principle of volume nor do I run naked through the streets like Greek scholar Archimedes shouting, “Eureka,” but I do tend to celebrate a bit, even if I’m by myself. I think our interns probably think I’m strange as they listen to me talk to the walls of my office pretty much every day. More >>
