 Here's today's MSU High 5 – a morning hello and the fastest way to get you up to speed with what's happening at Michigan State University.

1. Chittenden HallEvent to dedicate MSU's Chittenden Hall: This Friday MSU will celebrate the renovation of one its more historic buildings – Chittenden Hall. The grand opening program is at 3:30 p.m. in the atrium of the Justin S. Morrill Hall of Agriculture. A ribbon cutting will be at 4 p.m. at Chittenden Hall, which is located along what was once known as Laboratory Row on West Circle Drive. More >>

2. Understanding of world's freshwater fish, fishing too shallow: Inland fish have to make a bigger splash. What sounds counter-intuitive to an activity commonly perceived as quiet is the broad recommendation of scientists at Michigan State University recommending that small-scale fishing in the world’s freshwater bodies must have a higher profile to best protect global food security. 3. Honors college students recognized for Churchill Scholarship: MSU Honors College members Irina Pushel and David Zoltowski have been nominated for a Churchill Scholarship. Pushel is a senior majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology/biotechnology in the College of Natural Science. Zoltowski is a senior majoring in electrical engineering in the College of Engineering. More >>

5. Facing Fear: Just the other night I curled up on the couch with my daughter (who is an adult) and a bowl of popcorn to watch our favorite show, “The Walking Dead.” I realized that also within that week we had watched some of our other favorites—“American Horror Story,” “Sleepy Hollow” and “Gotham.” We also love “Bates Motel” but that season hasn’t started yet. Not to mention, we had gone all out for Halloween with decorations and intricately carved scary pumpkins. I swear I am not a dark and twisted person and neither is she. Really. We’re actually pretty upbeat and sunny on most days. More >>
