MSU ‘green’ efforts earn national recognition

Michigan State University continues to appear in both national and global rankings as a leader in environmental sustainability.

U.S. News and World Report ranks MSU No. 27 on its list of the “100 Best Global Universities for Environment/Ecology,” a directory that identifies “the world’s best universities for the field of environment and ecology, based on their reputation and research.”

MSU also has been recognized by “The Princeton Review’s Guide to 332 Green Colleges,” a list that identifies higher education institutions “that demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability.”

This list, created in partnership with the United States Green Building Council and highlighted in media such as USA Today and the New York Times, speaks volumes about universities and their commitment to the environment.

MSU came in at No. 15 on SaveOnEnergy.com’s ranking of the top 25 NCAA green football schools. SaveOnEnergy.com is a sustainable provider of electricity and natural gas.

MSU also is listed among the “100 Colleges Doing Green Right” by Best College Rankings – universities that provide the knowledge and tools for students to become global leaders in environmental sustainability.

“While these rankings are not exhaustive, they serve to demonstrate that what MSU has done and will continue to do in terms of environmental sustainability is noticeable, purposeful and admirable,” said Jennifer Battle, director of MSU Sustainability. “As a whole, these rankings commend MSU for its environmental curriculum and its sustainable student opportunities and campus efforts.”
