MSU Children's Choir to perform with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra

The MSU Children’s Choir will perform with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the University Musical Society Choral Union on May 30 and 31, presenting Mahler’s Symphony No. 3. The concerts will take place at Orchestra Hall, 3711 Woodward Ave., in Detroit. Leonard Slatkin will be conducting.

The MSU Children’s Choir, founded in 1993, is an ensemble of the MSU Community Music School. The choir is comprised of children from the Greater Lansing area ages 10-16 years old. They will be joined by a few members of CMS’s Young Women’s Chorus for girls ages 15-18.

“To perform with an orchestra of this caliber is a huge honor, and the singers are very excited," said Director of MSU Children and Youth Choirs Kyle Zeuch. “This will not only be a great musical experience, but a lesson in professionalism. Our students are learning what it is like to prepare for a professional collaboration and hold themselves in a professional manner at rehearsals and performances.”

The performance will be the fourth that the MSU Children’s Choir has given under Slatkin. Their first, “Bolcom: Songs of Innocence and of Experience,”earned the choir two Grammy Awards in 2006.
