At its Aug. 29 meeting, the Michigan State University Board of Trustees received the fall 2014 preliminary enrollment report, which showed MSU’s enrollment is expected to be around 49,700 students.
That would be a slight increase from last year – around 49,300 students.

Following are other actions taken by the board at its August meeting.
Several appointments of deans were approved, including Leo Kempel as dean of the College of Engineering; Prabu David as dean of the College of Communication Arts and Sciences; and Elizabeth Simmons as acting dean of the College of Arts and Letters.
Also approved was the appointment of Joanna Young as vice president for information technology and chief information officer.
The board authorized the administration to plan for the relocation and upgrade of the university’s main administrative computing data center and its high-performance computing center.
The board approved a resolution that allows the university to begin planning for the construction of a new facility that will house the men’s and women’s intercollegiate golf teams.
A resolution was adopted by the board that authorizes the administration to plan for the demolition of the west wing of the Eppley Building and its replacement with a new Graduate Pavilion.
Other personnel items approved by the board were the appointments of William Donohue as interim faculty grievance official and John Powell as interim secretary for Academic Governance.
