At its June 20 meeting, the Michigan State University Board of Trustees adopted the 2014-15 budget development guidelines, which included a composite 2.8 percent tuition increase for in-state, undergraduate students.
That matches last year’s increase, which was the lowest since 2005.
Under the plan, tuition for in-state, lower division students – freshmen and sophomores – will increase by 2.6 percent, while tuition for in-state, upper division students – juniors and seniors – will rise by 2.9 percent.

Following are other actions taken by the board at its June meeting.
The board authorized the administration to proceed with the project titled Facility for Rare Isotope Beams – Completion of Civil and Technical Construction. The approval was the last formal step needed by the board for the $730 million project to continue. Board members noted that while Congress appropriated funds for such projects annually, they are confident it will continue to fund this important project.
The board approved authorization for the administration to plan for upgrades to the Breslin Student Events Center. The work will include upgrades to the concourse and concession areas, as well as energy-saving enhancements.
Authorization to plan for renovations to the Duffy Daugherty Football Building was approved by the board. The work will include locker room and training room renovations.
The board approved a number of personnel items, including the appointment of John Baker as dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Sanjay Gupta as acting dean of the Eli Broad College of Business.
