The MSU Center for Regional Food Systems and the Ecology Center launched the Michigan Farm to Institution Network from April 3 at Crowne Plaza Lansing West. The statewide collaborative effort united farmers, food processors and food service directors in an effort to increase the amount of Michigan food served.
The network will encourage schools, child care centers, hospitals, colleges and universities to source 20 percent of their food products from Michigan growers, producers and processors by 2020. When the network launches, CRFS and the Ecology Center also will unveil Cultivate Michigan, a purchasing campaign featuring four local, seasonally-available foods each year and recipes and marketing tools to go with them.
