Graduate student receives award for leadership in science

MSU graduate student Christine Sprunger has been honored with the 2014 Future Leaders in Science Award. She was one of 18 students who received the award nationwide.

Sprunger, a member of the Department of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences, conducts research at the Kellogg Biological Station. She investigates carbon storage potential in perennial grain crops and biofuel systems by examining root carbon quantity and quality.

Sprunger also was chosen to present the Soil Science Society of America’s 2014 Excellence in Soil Stewardship Award to Sen. Debbie Stabenow. The annual award recognizes policymakers whose leadership has strengthened U.S. agriculture and the natural resources supporting it.
