Cori Fata-Hartley was named assistant dean for curriculum coordination in the MSU College of Natural Science.
As assistant dean, Fata-Hartley will play a leading role in the implementation of the college’s ongoing Biology Initiative and will also work with departments and programs across the college to develop and improve curricula and the connections among them. Fata-Hartley’s position also includes partial appointments in the MSU Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics and in the CREATE for STEM Institute.
“Dr. Fata-Hartley is an outstanding teacher and has deep experience in undergraduate education,” said R. James Kirkpatrick, CNS dean. “Her principal responsibility will be to provide leadership in advancing the quality of undergraduate education offered in the college. We are very pleased to have her join our leadership team.”
Fata-Hartley joined MSU in 2005 and held appointments in Lyman Briggs College and the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics before being appointed as the NatSci assistant dean for curriculum coordination in August. During that time, she was selected and participated in the MSU Lilly Teaching Fellowship and the Biology Scholars Research Residency on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning sponsored by the American Society for Microbiology. In 2013, Fata-Hartley also served as the interim director for faculty and instructional development programs in MSU’s Office of Faculty and Organizational Development. She received the 2013 All-University Individual Award for Sustained Effort toward Excellence in Diversity in recognition of her work to promote and foster inclusive learning environments for diverse groups of students at MSU.
"I am delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the college’s efforts to advance and improve the quality of education,” Fata-Hartley said. “This position will allow me to expand and build on my work to increase retention and academic success for a diverse group of learners interested in pursuing degrees in science and mathematics."
Fata-Hartley received her Ph.D. in medical science from the Molecular and Cellular Biology Program at the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo.
