Bassist Omer Avital to play in Pasant Theatre Feb. 12

Jazz bassist Omer Avital will perform with his ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in Wharton Center’s Pasant Theatre.

Avital also will host a master class for MSU College of Music jazz students. Avital's compositions synthesize American jazz, Israeli, Yemeni, Moroccan and Arab styles of music into what critics hail as a new art form.

His performance will feature all original compositions, including a preview of his upcoming album and selections from his album Suite of the East.

Tickets for the performance are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $5 for students. They will be available through the Wharton Center Box Office at (517) 4323-2000, online at whartoncenter.com and at the door.

Avital's visit, sponsored by the MSU Jewish Studies program and the MSU College of Music, is supported by the Stanley and Selma Hollander Fund for Jewish Music and Art.
