Sandoval’s latest Grammy-winning release, "Dear Diz (Every Day I Think of You)," pays tribute to his mentor, Dizzy Gillespie, who also helped Sandoval and his family defect from Cuba to the U.S. 24 years ago. Sandoval’s story was made into a movie, For Love or Country, starring Andy Garcia as Sandoval.
