Students, faculty, staff nominated for Michigan Emmys

Several faculty and staff at MSU have been nominated for Emmy awards by the Michigan Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Additionally, many students were nominated for student production awards. Winners will be announced at the 35th Emmy Gala which takes place June 15 at the MotorCity Casino Sound Board Theater in Detroit.

Emmy nominees:

  • Alberto Moreno, Jim Peck and Troy Hale were nominated for “World Medicine” in the Health and Science News Feature category.
  • Geri Zeldes was nominated for “US v. Narciso, Perez and the Press” in the Cultural Documentary category.
  • Kevin Epling was nominated for “MSU President’s Report: Zapping Nuclear Wastes” in the Education Category.
  • Anthony Siciliano and Epling were nominated for “2012 MSU Fall Welcome” in the Community and Public Service category.  
  • Siciliano and Peck were nominated for "Mayhem: The Seth Mitchell Story" in the Sports - One-Time Special category.
  • Siciliano, Epling and Jeff Cech were nominated for "Leaders, Lifesavers, World Changers: Spartans Will." in the Promotion - Program - Single Spot category.
  • Michael Mihalus and Tim Zeko were nominated for “BackStage Pass” in the Arts and Entertainment category. 
  • Mihalus and Matt Ottinger were nominated for “QuizBusters” in the Children, Youth and Teens Program category. 
  • Scott Allman and Charles Nelson were nominated for “Sustaining Our Young Forests” in the Environment category.
  • Tim Skubick was nominated for “Evening with the Governor 2012” in the Interview and Discussion category.

College/university student production nominees:

  • Lauren Gentile, Chloe Hill, Joseph Khalil, Josh Sidorowicz and Huiyi Zhou were nominated for their work in Focal Point in the Newscast category
  • Hill was nominated for "Students Vote Absentee" in the News: General Assignment category
  • Gentile was nominated for "Drought Threatens Christmas Tree Farms" in the News: General Assignment category.
  • Andrew Kelleher was nominated for "Help a Willing Kid at Lansing’s Crown Boxing Club" in the Sports, Editor and Photographer categories.
  • Sidorowicz was nominated for "Students in Final Get-Out-the-Vote Push" in the Public Affairs/Community Service and Writing categories.
  • Robert Smith and Victoria Zou were nominated for "Welcome to Media Sandbox" in the Commercial category.
  • Ryan Sundberg was nominated for "Lord of the Drinks: Cyborg Smash Productions" in the Animation/Graphics/Special Effects category.
  • Kirk Mason was nominated for "To the Moon!" in the Editor category
  • Katie Harrington was nominated for "Bailey Hoop House" in the Photographer category.
  • Sidorowicz was nominated for "Josh Sidorowicz Talent Reel" in the Talent category.
  • Hill was nominated for "Proposed Library Millage" in the Writing category.
