Staff profiles: Cindy Baswell

Cookies, brownies and cakes, oh my!

MSU Bakers specializes in making anything a sweet tooth could desire, all with a special Spartan touch. The staff bakes for birthdays, graduations or for those who just want a delicious treat.

Started in 1971, MSU Bakers has always been a campus favorite. In 2007, the bakery moved from a dining room in a residence hall to its current facility. The bakers provide goodies for the residence halls and anyone in the MSU community.

Cindy Baswell, the manager of MSU Bakers, said the office and bakery are as alive with MSU spirit as possible.

“We are huge Spartan fans here,” she said. “We play the fight song every week before a football game.”

Baswell has been part of the culinary services community at MSU for a long time. For 22 years she has spent her time working in dining services, recipe and menu development and, of course, the bakery.

Her favorite part of managing the campus sweet shop? The way the bakery’s products make people feel.

“Knowing that a student on campus got a cake sent from their parents for their birthday, or if someone in the dining hall finds their favorite cookie, we’re a part of that,” Baswell said. “It’s not a huge impact, but we make one, and that’s what’s fun about MSU Bakers.”
