No more lugging laundry home for MSU students

Students who live in Michigan State University’s residence halls will enjoy a new amenity starting this summer – free, unlimited laundry in all on-campus residence halls.

The Department of Residence Education and Housing Services, which oversees on-campus housing, is adding this complimentary service to the existing amenities and conveniences that come with on-campus living.

“Exploring ways to meet the needs of our students is always in the forefront of our minds,” said Kathy Collins, REHS director. “REHS is committed to making things as easy, convenient and cost-effective for our student residents so that they can focus on what is most important, and that is persisting toward graduation from MSU.”

The free service will launch during summer 2013 and be available in Snyder and Phillips halls, which are located in MSU’s North Neighborhood and house students taking courses in the summer. Free laundry service will be expanded to all residence halls on campus in fall 2013.

Annually, MSU students spend more than $1.3 million on laundry service in the residence halls. The average student does 18 loads of laundry per semester, which equals about $90 per year.

MSU students can sign up for on-campus housing for the 2013–14 academic year now through April 1. Information on housing sign-up and the numerous on-campus housing options and amenities is available at www.liveon.msu.edu.

Residence Education and Housing Services is a department of the Division of Residential and Hospitality Services at MSU.
