New Spartan helmet license plate to be offered Feb. 1

Beginning Feb. 1, the Michigan Department of State will offer a new Michigan State University fundraiser license plate that features the university’s Spartan helmet logo.

The Spartan helmet has come to be recognized in Michigan, across the United States and around the world as a distinctive symbol of MSU and what it means to be a Spartan.

Those who wish to order the new plate may do so from the Department of State by mail or at a Secretary of State office beginning Feb.1. Revenue from the MSU fundraiser plates is used to support student scholarships, athletics and University Activities Board.

Those who already have the block S plate and would like to continue displaying the MSU heritage logo may do so by keeping the current block S plate when renewing their registration. They also have the opportunity to purchase a new license plate with the block S logo until Feb. 1. After Feb. 1, only the helmet logo plate will be sold due to the Department of State rule that limits the number of specialty plates available to an organization to one.
