MSU team finishes second in national competition

The MSU food product development team earned second place in the product development competition at the annual Institute of Food Technologists National Convention.

The event was held July 11-16 at the Hilton in Chicago. Student teams from food science colleges across the country created food products and carried the concept through marketing and production.

MSU and five other finalist teams presented their products July 14 during IFT’s annual meeting and food expo. Judges evaluated the potential success of submitted products in today's market.

The MSU team’s product, Minus-the-Moo, was an all-natural frozen dessert containing almond milk and no sugar.

The idea started in the food science capstone course. Team members include Mara Laurain, Cory Carson, Edward Szczygiel, William Denver and Hunter Gartner.
