A new partnership between Michigan State University and Lansing Community College will tap Michigan’s academic institutions, workforce development professionals and economic development organizations to boost technical and vocational education in Saudi Arabia.
The Training-Global Leadership Workshop for Higher Administration Management for the Technical Vocational Training Corporation of Saudi Arabia is a five-part series that will train cohorts of 10 to 15 professionals at a time.
From June through November, a total of 65 managers from Saudi Arabia will attend workshops in several locations throughout Michigan, including Lansing, East Lansing, Big Rapids, Jackson, Southfield and Ann Arbor.
MSU’s Visiting International Professional Program will develop the series and the Business and Community Institute at LCC will coordinate workshop presenters through its network of local businesses, associations, government agencies and community colleges.
TVTC chose VIPP because of its experience in short-term training and development programs for professionals from around the globe, said Kari Kammel, VIPP’s Middle East program coordinator.
“MSU can play a role in helping those in the Middle East to shape vocational and technical training programs and help find what works best in each country,” she said.
With worldwide advances in technology, vocational and technical education has become increasingly important in the effort to foster economic growth, said Brent Knight, president of LCC.
“Collaborative projects such as these are vital to regional and global workforce development and our Business and Community Institute is at the forefront of bringing best practices to an array of great partnerships that strengthen businesses and provide meaningful employment to individuals,” he said.
