Community Music School: New East Lansing location

Take a drive down Hagadorn Road and notice the newest addition: Michigan State University Community Music School – East Lansing.

Until recently, the Community Music School was located on Timberlane Street in East Lansing. Executive Director Rhonda Buckley hopes the new location, 4930 S. Hagadorn Road, will increase visibility and collaboration.

“The goal it to be more visible,” Buckley said. “We have a sign on Hagadorn Road. Some people will drive by and say, ‘Oh, I didn’t know MSU had a Community Music School. I think I’ll stop in and see what’s going on.’

“Our vision to bring the Greater Lansing community together with our collegiate community and our students has a much greater opportunity here in this new location.”

The location has changed, but the programs being offered remain the same, Buckley said.

The new Community Music School has a percussion studio, an ensemble room, a keyboard lab and a performance hall. The school is also home to teaching studios, music therapy offices and early childhood education classrooms.

“We have a complete experience to offer,” Buckley said. “There is something for everyone.”

Community members and students alike are welcome to attend the spring open house from 3 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 20. Attendees will have access to the new building, hear demonstrations and be able to explore the school’s programs.

“Come and see us; check out the website! We would love for the community to come in and explore the opportunities,” Buckley said.
