Osteopathic school taps new leader for statewide network

The Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine has selected Jonathan D. Rohrer as the new associate dean for the Statewide Campus System.

SCS is a postdoctoral training institution that provides graduate medical education for graduates of MSU and other osteopathic medical schools. Comprising more than 41 member hospitals, SCS offers 216 postdoctoral programs across 47 specialties to more than 1,600 residents and interns.

Rohrer has spent spent the last 12 years as associate director of SCS and an earlier version of the consortium, supervising the development of educational programs, curriculum evaluation and the use of technology in the learning process. He replaces Mark Cummings, who has led SCS since 1999.

“I am honored for this opportunity to serve the consortium in this new position,” said Rohrer. “It’s exciting to see the number of strong training programs we have here and how we’ve led the nation in curriculum development. I’m looking forward to leading the strategic planning and visioning process to explore how we can adapt to the coming changes in medical education, take advantage of new opportunities, and continue to deliver quality graduate medical education.”

“Dr. Rohrer is an excellent choice,” said College of Osteopathic Medicine Dean William Strampel. “His experience will be vital in the coming years as we address many new issues while keeping SCS vibrant and a pioneer for new advances in graduate medical education.”
