Food safety lectures to take place June 14 and July 26

Two lectures on food safety will take place June 14 and July 26 as part of the Robert Leader Endowed Lecture Series.

Mark Moorman, senior director of global regulatory science for the Kellogg Company, will speak June 14 about "The Evolving Discipline of Food Safety: The Expanding Scope for our Future Leaders." Moorman will present a food industry perspective on the challenges and opportunities in food safety. He will discuss the current food safety challenges and present a case that their scope is increasing and so must the focus and skill sets for the future food safety professional.

Moorman has his undergraduate and Ph.D. degrees from Michigan State University in microbiology and food science and has an adjunct faculty appointment in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition.

Michael Robach, vice president of corporate food safety and regulatory affairs at Cargill Inc. will speak July 26 about "Public-Private Partnerships and Global Food Safety Systems."

Robach leads Cargill's efforts across food safety, quality assurance, animal health and regulatory compliance. He graduated from MSU and Virginia Tech.

The lecture series is sponsored by Online MS in Food Safety, Large Animal Clinical Sciences and the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Both lectures will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. in the University Club. The club is located on the south side of campus at 3435 Forest Road.
