One Book, One Community book selected for 2010

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State University and the city of East Lansing announced this week the 2010 One Book, One Community selection, “Zeitoun,” by author Dave Eggers.

The book tells the true story of one man’s harrowing struggle to survive in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

The annual One Book, One Community program, sponsored by MSU and the city of East Lansing, encourages the community to read the same book and discuss in a variety of settings. The book is an assigned reading for all incoming MSU freshmen.

Eggers, author of “The Wild Things,” “What Is the What” and “A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius,” will visit East Lansing to kick off the month-long program Aug. 29 at the East Lansing High School auditorium and also will welcome incoming MSU freshman at the Breslin Center Aug. 30. A series of community and campus events are planned around the themes in “Zeitoun.”
