Mike Brand: A long road toward healing and change

Mike Brand is executive director of Wharton Center for Performing Arts. On Feb. 2, he sent a letter to the Wharton Center community regarding recent events at the university.

In light of current circumstances at MSU, I am reaching out to you on behalf of Wharton Center staff to express our commitment to you, our friends and family.

We share the shock, disbelief and sorrow of our entire community. Trust in MSU has been
shaken. There will be a long road toward healing and change — a road paved with compassion, empathy and attentive listening. Our focus is, and needs to be, on the survivors and on our community.

Wharton Center aspires to be a center of healing for our community, simply by being what we are — a place where you can connect and come away refreshed, reassured and inspired. Now more than ever, we are committed to providing you with opportunities for introspection and healing, two themes about the human experience that often are at the heart of the performing arts.

Meanwhile, MSU faces enormous challenges, uncertainty and change. Wharton Center is
committed to being a positive force in this change process.
